Education, Ministries, & Activities

    With the exception of Communion Sundays, we have a Sunday School for the children during the Sunday Morning Worship Service.  After the Children's Sermon, the children accompany adult leaders for Bible lessons, crafts, and games. Decorating greeting cards for the shut-ins is an ongoing project. Our penny offering collection funds materials and gifts for the kids. 

     The Grove Avenue Free Store is held the second Wednesday of the month in the church basement from 1 to 3 PM.  Personal hygene and cleaning supplies, including pampers and wipes are available for Moxham residents and others.  We are pleased to report a recent grant by the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies of $2000 for the support of our Free Store.   Information contact: Jeanette Bush,  bushjeanette1966@gmail.com. 

    Our adult Bible Study Class meets on Thursday afternoon from 1:30 - 2:30 PM at Homestead Ave UMC (101 Homestead Ave), our sister church. The fall study topic (brginning Sept 12) is Twelve Ordinary Men.  All are welcome.

     The Women's Bible Study group meets at the church Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 PM.  Currently the group is studying The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren,   All are welcome (including men).  Teacher and contact person for additional information is Karen Hohman or email the church, groveaveumc501@gmail.com. 

     Held Tuesdays starting at 6:30 PM.  This group uses a popular, critically acclaimed, or controversial book or one with a Christian theme to explore for Christian and every-day relevance.  Sessions are hosted on Zoom to accommodate distant and shut-in participants.   Tuesday, Aug 6, our zoom sessions will begin a new study using Aimee Byrd's The Hope in Our Scars.    Contact Pastor Deb, preacherbabe@atlanticbb.net for more info and Zoom access details.

    Men's Study Group (Ladies Welcome) - meets Thursday mornings (except holidays) at 9 AM for discussion, donuts, and coffee.  The discussion is centered around various aspects of religion through the use of programs from the Great Courses DVDs.  All are welcome to join us.  For questions contact:  Bill Brice, 814-269-3950; wbrice@pitt.edu. 

    Friday after school ministry.  We believe that kids are an important part of our Moxham community. Stories, snacks, and varieties of activities for kids grades K-6 after the bell from 1:30 - 3:30 PM most Fridays during the school year.  Sessions normally are not held on school days off and over holidays.

     The second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 PM, folks from Grove and Homestead meet at Grove to share a meal and to plan nurturing and outreach ministries.
